RE:  Hearing on Monday, April 20, 2026 ... Ryan Kanara

Your Honor,

Thank you for taking time out of your extremely busy schedule for this email.  We are going to have the privilege to be a character witness in yur courtroom on Monday, April 20th regarding Ryan Kanara.

We're writing this to give you a few facts ahead of time for Ryan's file.  Also to ask advice from you.

About Ryan Kanara:

  • He is the only caregiver for his grandparents who raised him. He went to nursing school briefly but that is when his grandparents started going downhill. He is dedicating all his time to care for them. He does a great job.

  • He is extremely talented with music. He sings and plays piano very well. He is sacrificing this talent to take care of his grandparents, whom he loves extremely and will not let them go into a nursing home.

  • Ryan is not able to work because his grandparents need 24 hour care.

We have known Ryan for over ten years.  We use to take him to church with us with his grandparents, but due to the grandparents' condition, they cannot do that anymore.  We used to own a restaurant in Conneaut. Ryan would come into our restaurant and play music free for people.

We are now living in Trumbull County.  We cannot be much assistance to Ryan anymore. We need your advice, sir. We went up to visit Ryan and his grandparents and discovered the hardship they are going through.  I have reached out to different agencies like 211, Senior Health Care, and Buckeye Pace. We cannot find any help because they do not have Medicaid, only Medicare and Social Security. They need a hospital bed.

We acknowledge that Ryan has made bad choices. We don't know if he fell into drinking that day because of his stressful situation. Still that is no excuse.  I do have to commend him for giving up his music exposure and working for income to take care of his grandparents.

Any advice from you to point us in the right direction will definitely be greatly appreciated. We remember when you were awarded Citizen of the Year in 2011. We respect your input. Thank you!

I've attached a short video that was taken a few years ago of Ryan when he played at Pioneer Picnic. I hope you can hear it to the end. He is talented but hidden.  Ryan is not aware of this letter of video to you.

Thank you and bless you,

Chip and Elaine Wagner
